Growing tips
- Start indoors 8–10 weeks before your last frost. Sow ¼" deep in warm soil (75–85°F). Seeds usually sprout in 7–14 days.
- Transplant once nights stay above 55°F. Plant 18–24" apart in full sun (or one plant per 5-gallon pot).
- Water deeply and let the top inch of soil dry between waterings. Mulch helps in summer heat.
- Harvest green pods about 70–85 days after transplanting, when full size and glossy. Leave them on the plant 2–3 more weeks to ripen red for drying, ristras and red chile sauce.
